Ever since my kids saw the sandboxes our neighbors had, they never stopped bugging their daddy to buy them one.  But my husband was worried about the damage it might cause to our garden.  And we  just recently put  garden borders in our lawn.  Having those garden borders were really a great idea, they not only provided design to our garden, but it also separated our lawn from our planting beds, prevented weed from growing inside flower beds, and it also redirects the mower or grass trimmer away.

However, seeing how unhappy the kids were about not having sandboxes, we finally decided to buy them one.   My husband was happy that the sandboxes were not at all hard to assemble; it could even be considered a do-it-yourself undertaking.  Our lawn was not at all damaged and especially our flower beds.  And after adding the play sand, the kids were already in the sandbox and were having a great time.  Having sandboxes also worked for us parents, why? Having clean and tidy sandboxes kept the kids safely occupied for hours and hours, giving us more time to do other things in the house, like cleaning and laundry.  House chores were done so fast that my husband and I have free time to play with the kids.  Well, sandboxes might be for kids only, but they also work for adults.
