While waiting for the results of the board exam I just took in dentistry, I went into Dentistry – History. I wanted to compare dentistry in the past and in the present. Of course, dental practices were so limited and the tools outrageous. Oral hygiene was next to impossible that even King Tut is suspected of having died of an impacted molar? Tooth extractions were done by shamans and later by carpenters and blacksmiths with no dental courses nor dental jobs to boast of. There were no websites, nor keywords dental implants bolton to back them up. The medics during early wars served as doctors, dentists and care givers all rolled in one. With the shamans, it was different: they had drugs to sedate their patients as they pulled the tooth out and had a vast knowledge of herbal medicines to control infection and put pain at bay.
Now a licensed dentist, I still get advanced dental courses and trainings. I have dental jobs /consultancies based on my specialized trainings. I have certificates on Endodontics, Orthodontics, Periodontics and all the dontics a good dentist needs to impress patients but the pictures I took on the net hanging on my clinic wall are the most confidence stimulating. It makes patients feel lucky dentistry has evolved into what it is today.
