The Epson Stylus SX400 is an ideal choice for a home office, combining scanning, copying and printing in a single, compact unit. With a purchase price of under £70 it affordable, but purchase price is only half the story when it comes to the cost of an inkjet printer, running costs are just as important. Epson SX400 ink cartridges consists of four individual Epson ink cartridges, one for each of the colours – black, cyan, magenta and yellow. This type of printer ink system saves money because it means only the colours that are used need to be replaced and the remaining colours are unaffected. The Sx400 is a solid printer in terms of the quality of its output, text documents have a crisp sharp look and photo prints are equally to that from a professional photo lab with full, bright colours. Due to the compact size of the SX400 is hard to believe that its actual has a A4 flat bed scanner built into it, it manages this because the scanner is a slim line design. Often when this are made more compact it affects their functionality but this is not the case the SX400’s scanner as it performs well at scanning all types of documents and produces great results thanks to it 1200pdi resolution. The SX400 also has a photo copying facility which works without the need for computer and is a convenient future for small home office. 

The Epson Stylus D92 is a budget printer designed to perform everyday tasks like printing letters, emails and the odd photo now again. The printer goes beyond expectations for a budget printer but is slightly let down by the cost of the printer ink cartridges. Although no more expensive than another inkjets in its class the Epson D92 ink cartridges are expensive in relation to the cost of the printer itself and this is a slight disappointment as it means every though is doesn’t do as much as better equipped printers it still cost the same amount to run. Apart from the printer cartridges it hard to find fault with the Stylus D92 it does exactly what it says on the tin and not only that, it does it well. One thing it doesn’t shine at is print speed, this is highlighted in Epson’s exaggerated claim that the Stylus D92 is capable of printing 25 pages per minutes, while this maybe true when the printer is in draft quality mode in standard quality mode the speed is more like 2 ppm which is a bit of different from 25 ppm. One other slight complaint about the D92 is the noise level when printing it is a little higher than what we have come to expect from other brands of inkjet printer even fro a budget printer. Overall The D92 is a good little printer and ‘little’ is the correct word to use because its very compact, so shouldn’t take up too much room on the desk.

My friend has a big number of family members, sometimes it is quite difficult especially raising for the family every day needs, but because my friend parents has a good work and run a small business, they meet their necessary family needs. The Samsung CLP-300 is one of the smallest and least expensive colour laser printer on the market and aims to bring colour laser printing to the home user. First thing the strikes you about the CLP-300 is that is remarkable compact for a colour laser printer measuring just 391 x 410 x 260mm (WDH) this is thanks to the unique configuration of its printer cartridges. As a result of the Samsung CLP-300 toner cartridges being smaller than usual it means they yield fewer pages but in terms of cost per pages they work out to be about average. There are also remanufactured Samsung toner cartridges available for the CLP-300. Print quality of the CLP-300 isn’t quite to the standard of the average colour laser printer but considering this is one of the first budget laser printers you can’t expect it to produce the same results as a printer that costs 3 times more. Printing text is good and it stays true to the official 16ppm speed in the spec sheet but colour printing reduces the speed considerably and printing anything more than basic graphics in colour leaves you feeling a little under whelmed. Build quality of the CLP-300 is pretty average, some of the plastics feels a bit flimsy, especially the front cover which hides the toners cartridges which is not great because it needs a good tug to get it open when changing the cartridges. The Samsung CLP-300 has no surprises its true to its word and this makes is a good buy.
